Sample collection

Sending
your samples is very easy

We explain how to send the samples you take in a secure way.
Each type of sample must be collected in its corresponding container.
The sample must be correctly identified.

How to send a genetic sample

Collection

For genetic analyses in both dogs and cats, the sample can be either 0.5-1 ml of whole blood in EDTA or two dry swabs of oral mucosa.

Shipping

Send the samples correctly identified:

Please note that all the data received will be reflected in the result, so it is very important to write in clear and legible handwriting (preferably in capital letters).

Results

Once the analysis has been carried out, you will receive the result via email.

Payment

Payment for the tests carried out may be made via bank transfer at the end of each month, or by direct debit if you requested it in your customer file.

Avoiding contamination

To avoid contamination with DNA from a different source, the animal should not be fed or suckle for 1-2 hours before sample collection. During this time, it should be separated from the other animals.

Rub firmly

When collecting the sample the swab must be rubbed firmly against the oral mucosa (between the gum and the sides of the mouth), to ensure that enough cells adhere to the swab. It is not possible to perform a genetic test if enough genetic material is not collected. For safety reasons, the use of two dry swabs per animal is recommended.

Let air dry

It is very important to let the swabs air dry: after taking the sample, put the swab back inside the tube and do not close the cap until 1-2 hours have passed, after which you should proceed to close it (making sure it is completely closed).

Label the sample

Please label the tube with the important information (animal’s name, owner, microchip number…).

Send on the same day as collection

Send the two swabs to Dr. Barba together with the “Genetics” analysis form, if possible on the same day as sample collection.
