Atrofia retiniana progressiva por distrofia bastonetes-cones tipo 1 (rcd1) no Setter irlandês e no Setter irlandês vermelho e branco. Degeneração precoce e progressiva de fotorrecetores retinianos que conduz à cegueira. Foi uma das primeiras formas de PRA canina caracterizadas a nível molecular.
Incidência
Afeta o Setter irlandês e o Setter irlandês vermelho e branco. A rcd1 é uma das PRAs clássicas; o teste genético permitiu reduzir a frequência de portadores em programas de criação, embora não sejam publicados sistematicamente dados de prevalência atuais (dados limitados).
Manejo do criador
- Genotipar reprodutores antes da cobrição\n- Não cruzar portador×portador (risco de 25 % de homozigotos afetados); portador×isento produz 0 % de afetados e 50 % de portadores\n- Um animal afetado não deve reproduzir-se; um portador pode cruzar-se com um isento sem gerar afetados\n- Exame oftalmológico anual (ECVO) complementar
Notas do especialista
O diagnóstico diferencial inclui outras PRAs do Setter, em particular a rcd4 (associada a um frameshift em C2orf71), de início mais tardio que a rcd1. A confirmação definitiva requer o teste genético de PDE6B.
