Atrofia retinica progressiva da distrofia bastoncelli-coni di tipo 1 (rcd1) nel Setter irlandese e nel Setter irlandese rosso e bianco. Degenerazione precoce e progressiva dei fotorecettori retinici che porta a cecità. È stata una delle prime forme di PRA canina caratterizzate a livello molecolare.
Incidenza
Colpisce il Setter irlandese e il Setter irlandese rosso e bianco. La rcd1 è una delle PRA classiche; il test genetico ha permesso di ridurre la frequenza dei portatori nei programmi di allevamento, sebbene i dati di prevalenza attuali non siano pubblicati in modo sistematico (dati limitati).
Gestione dell'allevatore
- Genotipizzare i riproduttori prima dell'accoppiamento\n- Non incrociare portatore×portatore (rischio del 25 % di omozigoti affetti); portatore×indenne produce 0 % di affetti e 50 % di portatori\n- Un animale affetto non deve riprodursi; un portatore può essere incrociato con un indenne senza generare affetti\n- Esame oftalmologico annuale (ECVO) complementare

La diagnosi differenziale include altre PRA del Setter, in particolare la rcd4 (associata a un frameshift in C2orf71), con esordio più tardivo rispetto alla rcd1. La conferma definitiva richiede il test genetico di PDE6B.
